Camino Day 19: San Zoilo to Terradillos de los Templarios
Day 19: 25.6 kilometres - 37,989 steps
A long flat walk today. We walk 17kms before there is another town. Donna surprised me by saying this was the first day she wasn't counting down to the nearest town. It’s great weather - a sunny 22C. Long stretches today are on the senda by the side of the road. It’s less green now, there are more unplanted brown fields. It’s a little tedious for me but Donna in particular seems really happy, she loves it here.
We are overnighting at the alburgue. There is an electric foot massage machine in the foyer. Its only two Euro for 10 minutes of heavenly bliss!!! Then cold beer in the garden with the Melbourne boys before dinner. Simple pleasures.
At a rest stop today we met two peregrinas from Austria. One lady was turning 70 this year. She has been walking the Camino since 2009, starting as is tradition from their home in Austria. Her son was diagnosed as terminally ill and she expected him die when she commenced the walk years ago. Every year she has walked for a month, further along The Way and this year she will finally finish. She was rubbing her rosary beads as she spoke quietly and then began to cry. Her son had been given the all clear just days ago. He was cured.
We are aware once again that not every pilgrim is a tourist.
