Camino Day 22: Mansilla de las Mulas to Leon

We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.
— Anais Nin

Day 22: 23.3 kilometres -  34,700 steps

It’s our last day walking with Donna.

The guide book recommends catching a bus which seems crazy. It’s very easy and uneventful walking into Leon. We pass through some industrial areas and outer suburbs but its not bad, and mostly off the main road. Then we are in Leon, entering through a break in the old walls.

Tapas here is free with a drink. Yes please.

We hit a great bar on the way in and order a plate of local meats.  Jamon and Chorizo, six styles, with bread and drinks and voila! some free tapas turns up too. Too much food!  Yet somehow we eat it all and check into the hotel, then go to the laundromat. We bump into the boys and arrange to meet them at their hotel at 6pm for drinks. They are staying at The Parador. Our hotel is The Real Collegiate de Basilicca, a converted monastery. It’s an impressive building but the rooms are sparsely furnished and bleakly decorated - just a single wooden cross above the hard single beds - perfectly adequate for devoted pilgrims but not lush at all.
