Camino Day 20: Terradillos de los Templarios to Bercianos del Real Camino

Few can foresee whither their road will lead them, till they come to its end.

Day 20: 23.3 kilometres -  34,700 steps

Gorgeous weather again today. We set out early and make great time. The way is flat and we all keep a good time. I notice that Donna takes a few less photos and walks a little faster now.

In the morning we pass through Moratinos. There is a cluster of bodegas in a small hillside - little caves cut into the hill, each with its own door. A little like hobbit holes. Traditionally used as areas to make wine and store food in the cool interior. These ones are in various states of disrepair. Some derelict and others in great condition. One has a TV antennae - Man Cave!!

We stop in the agricultural town Sahagun for lunch. The girls are excited to order Polpo (octopus) for lunch. I’m dubious, this is a small dusty town, not a beach for miles and when it arrives they won’t eat it.  Donna says is smells too fishy and Sylvie is suddenly worried about food poisoning. It looks amazing but goes uneaten.

This afternoon is a warm 26C and the path is flat senda next to the old Roman road, it is the largest in Spain. It’s pretty uninteresting and I think tomorrow is more of the same….

But- then we stumbled across the camino donkey!! The legendary donkey who travels with his pilgrim owner permanently on Camino. We leave a donation in his bowl and take a donkey stamp in our credentials.
