Experience nature’s own spa on the Athenian Riviera (Copy)
It is Lake Vouliagmeni, a natural geological spa, more than worth discovering.
The lake, formed 2,000 years ago following an earthquake, is continually naturally replenished with warm seawater which comes via an underground channel, through a network of flooded caves, and mixed with water from a subterranean freshwater spring, giving it an average temperature around 21-24 °C.
Because of its constant warm water temperature and its rich content in minerals, the lake’s waters, renowned for both being good for the skin and healing benefits, provide a true unique and natural thermal spa experience.
An additional bonus is Lake Vouliagmeni being filled with little Garra Rufa fish, that you see at beauty spa’s eating dead skin off patron’s feet. For a natural exfoliation, just stand still in the more shallow waters of the lake and they will come to nibble on your feet. You’ll come out with feeling as if you’ve just had a pedicure.
The lake is surrounded by lounge chairs on which you can relax and take in the sun between swims.
With the surrounding mountains you will feel as if you’re in a tranquil world far from bustling Athens, but in reality only 25 kilometers away.
Next to the lake is the trendy Restaurant Nero serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and in between serving drinks, coffee and cocktails.
